Tata Chemicals Europe's production processes are very energy-intensive and require a large amount of steam. Every year 2.5TWh (terawatt hours, or 2.5million megawatt hours) of heat energy is required to run our business.
The Lostock plant currently relies on energy from the existing E.ON operated Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant at Winnington.
Although the current gas-fired CHP plant is one of the most efficient of its kind in the UK, the long-term use of fossil fuel alone to generate heat and electricity will not be sustainable in a low-carbon future.
