Our proposals are environmentally sustainable because we would use recovered fuel, rather than natural resources - or fossil fuels - such as oil or gas. Also, we can use both the electricity and the steam produced by the Sustainable Energy Plant, making it a very efficient use of resources.

The aim of the Sustainable Energy Plant is to use materials that cannot be recycled but can address carbon reduction requirements, which are now a priority for the Government and the European Commission. The process of using pre-treated, non-hazardous waste as a fuel rather than burying it in a landfill site has been widely-used across Europe for many years.

Economically, using waste-derived fuels helps us to protect our business’s future. We would be less susceptible to potential gas price rises and supply issues, which means we can continue to be a major employer and contributor to the local economy
